Asparagus - Millenium
Asparagus - Millenium
‘Millennium’ asparagus is bred in Ontario. It is high yielding, long lived, cold hardy, and adaptable to a wide range of soils including heavy clay. It is slower to attain high yields compared to ‘Jersey’ varieties, but later showed superior and heavy yields over a 15-year lifespan. Asparagus plantings are typically started using 1-year-old roots. A light harvest is available in the second year, a larger harvest the third year, and a full harvest thereafter.
Asparagus is a hardy perennial vegetable that is productive for many years. Plant where you want them to stay as they do not like their roots to be disturbed. It grows well in neutral to slightly acidic soil with good drainage. The ferns require lots of space.
