The Butternut, also known as White Walnut, tree is a slow-growing shade tree that can live 75 to 100 years. It produces edible nuts, can be used for furniture, dyes and traditional medicines.The nut is smooth, tan and oblong shaped with a sweet, oily taste. Does not tolerate shade or competition. Produces juglones which can be toxic to other plants growing under its dripline. Native to Eastern Canada.

Pollinators: Another Butternut recommended as trees will produce male and female flowers, but rarely at the same times. *Wind pollinated.
