Golden Currant is a dense-growing, high-yielding understory shrub that produces yellow blossoms in the spring that smell similar to vanilla or cloves and attract hummingbirds. The small, tart, black berries can be used for jams, jellies, or dried. The leaves are similar to gooseberry leaves and turn a reddish colour in the fall. The root stock can be used to graft other currants onto it. It can tolerate part shade and poor soils. Prefers well-draining, moist, clay loam soil. Can be used as a hedge.
