Gooseberry - Hinnomaki Red

A high-producing gooseberry that produces large (3.6 g), red berries in mid-summer. The berries are sweet with a tart skin and are rich in antioxidants, and contain vitamins C, B5, B6 and E as well as copper, manganese, and potassium. They can be used for fresh eating, preserves, jams, and juices (wine). Shade tolerant so good understory plant. Good resistance to powdery mildew. Very thorny. Prefers moist soil. Keep base area of plant clear of weeds so roots don't compete for nutrients and water.
