Borealis is a smaller-sized shrub with a bushy growth habit. It is an early to mid-season haskap. The dark blue, elongated berries (1.6 g) are one of the best tasting with a sweet/tangy flavour. Good for fresh eating, baking and preserves. Borealis is resistant to powdery mildew.
Haskaps, also known as honeyberries, are a hardy cross between a honeysuckle and a blueberry. Haskap are hardy to -47 ºC and their blossoms can tolerate a frost of -7 ºC without damage. Haskap berries take about 5-10 days after they turn colour to become fully ripe. Tolerant of wide range of pH, but prefer well draining soil (plant on hill or berm if poor draining soil). Requires pollinator to bear fruit.
