The Beaked Hazelnut is a hardy nut tree native to Canada that produces small, tasty cream-coloured nuts that are covered in an elongated, green husk. The husk has prickly hairs on it which cause irritation so, when harvesting, gloves are highly recommended. One tree will produce 5 to 6 kg of nuts at maturity. The tree can live for up to 80 years and is more disease-resistant than the filbert or common hazelnut.
Harvest: late August to early September
Pollinators: Another Beaked Hazelnut recommended as trees will produce male and female flowers, but rarely at the same times. *Wind pollinated.
