Martin was produced from the Thiessen saskatoon. It has a more even ripening of the berries The purple-blue berries it produces are large (16 mm) and have good flavour. The berries can be used for fresh eating, baking, preserves, dried, or frozen. Good for windrows or hedge planting. It will remain fairly short for a saskatoon bush, but may require maintenance to keep it to a reasonable width.
Saskatoons are slow-growing, so some fruit will be produced in 1-3 years, but it may take up to 15 years before a full crop is produced. Better fruit production if a second cultivar is nearby. Amend clay soil for best success.
