Smoky is one of the best yielding variety of saskatoons and was the variety used most often for commercial production. The large (16 mm), purple-blue berries it produces have a mild, sweet flavour. The berries can be used for fresh eating, baking, preserves, dried, or frozen.
Saskatoons are slow-growing, so some fruit will be produced in 1-3 years, but it may take up to 15 years before a full crop is produced. Better fruit production if a second cultivar is nearby. Amend clay soil for best success.
